Facility Closure

Solutions Recovery International (SRI) has certified the tank systems for all Boeing facilities inWTS EQ removalCalifornia under California Code of Regulations, Title 22. Naturally when the Shuttle Program under NASA came into the end in Palmdale California, SRI was contracted to develop the closure plan, oversee the closure activities and submit the final closure report. This project like other SRI projects was completed within budget and schedule.

Facility ClosureMachine 33

Kobe Precision, Inc. (KPI) closed its doors after operating for 20 years reclaiming wafers for clients such as Intel and AMD. SRI was contracted to prepare the Closure Plan, over see the equipment dismantling and disposal and facility decontamination.

SRI had prepared the Closure Plan and submitted to the HazMat division of City of Hayward in a week after  authorization to proceed as KPI had an interested party to purchase the building. The plan was approved on the same day and the equipment cleaning procedure started immediately.SRI sampled the equipment and maintain a record for every equipment moved out of the facility. Upon removal of all equipment the facility cleaning process started and was completed Facility Cleaningwithin schedule and budget.

The final closure report was completed in 5 days after the last waste disposal manifest was obtained. The City commented that this was the best closure report they have ever seen.

SBR in Taiwan

SRI principals have completed over 30 wastewater treatment projects in Taiwan. Scope of work included preparation of construction drawings and specifications, construction inspection, equipment procurement and fabrication, start-up, and traiSBR Facility in Taiwnning.  These plants were serving small communities from 500 to 4000 people (100,000 to 1.3 million gallon per day) including the rain fall.

Wastewater Treatment & Recycling Systems

Ion ExchangeSRI designed, fabricated and installed two 20 GPM wastewater recycling systems in 2002 for Chromium (Cr) plating line and Cadmium Cyanide (CdCN) plating operation on a turnkey basis. In both design approaches, Ion Exchange Technology was used to remove metals such as Cr, Ni, Cd and Cu. Ozone/UV advance oxidation process was used to destroy cyanide (CN).

Acid and caustic was used for regeneration of the exhausted systems, and the regeneration was directed to the existing precipitation system for treatment and discharge to the sewer.

This facility was utilizing approximately 30,000 gallons of water per day. The installed Ion Exchange Systems reduced this water consumption to 3000 gallons once a week from the Cr system and once every two weeks from the CN system. Therefore, the newly Wastewater Treatment & Recycling System paid for itself in less than 2 years.

Chrome and Cyanide Batch Treatment Systems

SRI designed, fabricated and installed two batch systems in 2004 to treat spent baths and regeneration from the recycling systems in a controlled way. Standard chemical precipitation process was used in reduction of chromium 6 (Cr+6) to chromium 3 (Cr+3).

Tool Design

BiCMOS Foundry is a chip manufacturing facility. In 2006 SRI was hired to perform tool design installation for Novellus and MRC tools. Some of the gases used in this projects were Phosphine (PH3), Silane (SiH4) and Nitrogen.

Tank Certification in 2004 and 2009

The Wright-Polanco-Lempert Hazardous Waste Treatment Permit Reform Act of 1992 (Assembly Bill 1772), which went into effect on January 1, 1993, made important changes to State law governing the treatment and storage of hazardous wastes.  Assembly Bill 1772 (AB1722) established a five-tiered program for authorizing treatment and/or storage at many businesses that require State authorization to treat or store hazardous waste, but do not require a hazardous waste facility permit under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).  The “Permit by Rule” (PBR) tier for non-RCRA regulated, on site treatment facilities subject to the requirements set forth in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations CCR), Division 4.5, Chapter 45 (22 CCR §67450), which requires a Registered Professional Engineer to certify all treatment tanks in a Fixed Treatment Unit.
